FNF Checkpoint 2--volunteers and supplies

Ok, the first phase (planning/brainstorming) is finished, and you all have terrific ideas. Now it's time to get your volunteers and your supply list together.

I've copied Holly's comment to this checkpoint because she has volunteer information on it. Also, for the same reason, I've copied mine here.

Please get me your supply lists ASAP so that I can send out one big news net.

BTW, the ideas are beyond the vision I even had in mind, so YOU ALL ROCK! This is going to be such a ministry to the kids.

I'll put up checkpoint 3 next week.

FNF Checkpoint 1

Ok, here's where you can comment on what you're team is working on. Mandy had already commented on the post below this one about the downstairs team (She's so good that she beat me to the post!), so I copied it to this post.

Fear Not Fest

Ok, here are the basics:
Oct 27 from 6-9
1st-5th graders only
VBS style--kids broken into groups with leaders, rotating around to different stations

Stations (15 min apiece):
  • 5 rooms (gathering room counts as one) upstairs Capernaum center will be the storytelling area that serves as an alternative to a haunted house. Each room will have a different character (dressed) telling his/her story of overcoming fear by trusting in God. Rooms are decorated to look like the event (e.g. Joseph is inside of the well/pit his brothers put him in); characters pass out candy or prize to kid to represent overcoming fear (Trusting God can replace your fear with laughing--Snickers)
  • Room for game
  • Room for craft
  • Area for food and carnival type games
Storytelling rooms will be themed as follows: 1. Joseph in the pit 2. Daniel in the Lions' Den 3. Esther going before the King 4. Jonah in the whale 5. Cemetery--Who rolled the stone away?

Game will be "Fear Not--The Lord is with you." It's just like Marco Polo but you say Fear Not, and the other people say the latter.

Craft, if we can figure out how to do it, will be to make night lights to go along with 2 Samuel 22:29

Obstacles
  • Visions is doing their fall festival until 6:30 in the gym; They said we can use their stuff if we want (bean bag throw etc), but if we need the gym, we're either going to have to use their stuff or tear it down and put ours up fast. I'm almost thinking we should just avoid the gym and have our stuff in one bldg.
  • We'll only have 1 week to decorate the upstairs rooms because of SS (from Sunday after church through Friday morning). Fellowship hall is reserved all day on Friday.

Things to Think About for the Meeting on the 15th:
  • We need a person to head up each storytelling room (5 people)-- gathering storytellers, planning the decoration of it, getting a team together to make it happen
  • We need a game point person to get a team together (think like we did at BTSW)
  • We need a craft point person to get a team together (ditto)
  • We need a food person who has been to the training to get food together (Carol Ehrman will be a consultant, but she's overwhelmed and would prefer to train someone than to put it all together herself. She'll help you know how much, where, and what to order
  • we need 2 Carnival Game point persons to recruit a team to volunteer and to come up with theme based games (David slingshot game, Jericho wall tumble, etc.)
  • we will need childcare for K and under (maybe show Rack Shack and Benny or Jonah)
  • we need a detailed person to be in charge of the "VBS" type groups and scheduling the rotations
That's 12 people, folks, and miraculously, that's how many people we have on our CFM team, so pick one that you'd like to do. First come, first served. One exception: Nancy will be in near delivery mode at that time, so I'm putting her as one of the Carnival point people to plan ideas and recruit people right now and then back out for baby! The other point person can take on the rest of the job as soon as she needs to step back, and I would like this person to be someone who can work via phone or email with Nancy so that she is as comfortable as possible (I need her for 10 more years on the team, you know).
